 विश्वविख्यात उर्दू शायर डॉ. राहत इंदौरी का जन्म स्वर्गीय रिफ़तुल्लाह कुरैशी एवं स्वर्गीय मक़बूल बी के यहाँ 1 जनवरी, 1950 को इंदौर में हुआ। राहत साहब ने आरंभिक शिक्षा इंदौर के नूतन स्कूल से प्राप्त करने के बाद इंदौर विश्वविद्यालय से उर्दू में एम.ए. एवं पीएच.डी. की डिग्री हासिल की। तत्पश्चात 16 वर्षों तक इंदौर विश्वविद्यालय में उर्दू साहित्य अध्यापन और त्रैमासिक पत्रिका 'शाखें' का 10 वर्षों तक सम्पादन किया। राहत साहब ने हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के लिए कई मशहूर गीत लिखे हैं और लगभग सभी प्रमुख ग़ज़ल गायकों ने उनकी गज़लों को अपनी आवाज़ दी है। कुछ प्रमुख फ़िल्मों के नाम हैं : सर, खुद्दार, जानम, नाराज़, नाजायज़, औज़ार, आरजू, याराना, करीब, मिशन कश्मीर, घातक, मैं खिलाड़ी तू अनाड़ी, मुन्ना भाई MBBS, इश्क, मर्डर, मीनाक्षी आदि। __________________________________________________ रोज़ पत्थर की हिमायत में ग़ज़ल लिखते हैं रोज़ शीशों से कोई काम निकल पड़ता है मैंने अपनी खुश्क आँखों से लहू छलका दिया, इक समंदर कह रहा था मुझको पानी चाहिए। बहुत ग़ुरूर है दरिया को अपने होने पर जो मेरी प्यास से उलझे तो धज्जिय
